UCL: Mourinho expects Chelsea fans to cheer, not boo him on return

The 62-year-old Portuguese manager, famously known as the ‘Special One,’ remains a legendary figure in Chelsea’s history. During his two stints in west London, Mourinho guided the Blues to three Premier League titles, three League Cups, and an FA Cup—transforming the club into a dominant force under Roman Abramovich’s ownership.

While Chelsea fans once turned on him during his spells at Manchester United and Tottenham—chanting “you’re not special anymore”—Mourinho now believes their affection will shine through.

“Of course, I will always be a Blue. I am part of their history and they are part of mine. I helped them become a bigger Chelsea, and they helped me become a bigger Jose,” Mourinho told reporters.

The club even decorated Stamford Bridge’s Ted Drake Suite with photos of Mourinho’s greatest Chelsea moments, a gesture that touched him deeply. “Not many clubs do this. Sometimes they want to delete the past. Chelsea is a real big club,” he added.

Despite his current role with Benfica, Mourinho acknowledged his emotional ties:
“When I say I am not a Blue, I mean the job I have to do tomorrow. But I don’t think Chelsea fans will boo. On the streets, they still stop me for autographs and pictures.”

The Portuguese tactician also addressed Chelsea’s current struggles under Enzo Maresca, offering support rather than criticism. Still, he reminded everyone of his unmatched record with the club: “I am the biggest one until someone wins four titles.”

With Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge, nostalgia mixes with anticipation—ensuring his return will be one of the standout moments of this Champions League round.
