French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that Ukraine is prepared to agree to an unconditional ceasefire, stressing that it is now up to Russia to take the next step toward ending the ongoing conflict.

Speaking after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome, Macron described their discussions on X as “very positive,” underlining that both leaders are committed to achieving peace.

“Ending the war in Ukraine — that is the goal we share with President Trump,” Macron stated.

He confirmed that Ukraine is ready to halt hostilities without any conditions and is willing to collaborate with both European and American partners to secure a peaceful resolution.

“President Zelenskyy reiterated this to me today,” Macron added. “Now, it’s up to President Putin to prove that he truly wants peace.”

Macron also reaffirmed France’s continued support for Ukraine through the Coalition of the Willing, a diplomatic initiative launched in Paris earlier this year to coordinate global efforts toward a ceasefire and sustainable peace.

“We will continue our efforts within the Coalition of the Willing to achieve both this ceasefire and a complete, lasting peace in Ukraine,” Macron noted.

President Zelenskyy is currently in Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican. During his visit, he also met with U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, describing his meeting with Trump as “very symbolic.”
