As Nigeria’s Super Falcons prepare to face host nation Morocco in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final in Rabat, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered an emotional message of support, urging the team to bring home a historic 10th title.

In a personally signed statement, Tinubu lauded the team’s undefeated performance and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the tournament, expressing confidence in their ability to secure victory.

“My beloved Super Falcons, tonight, you stand at the cusp of history as you face Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat,” the president wrote.
“Your performance over the past three weeks has been awe-inspiring. You have represented Nigeria with pride, honour, and strength.”

President Tinubu specifically praised the team’s visit to South African player Gabriela Salgado, who was injured during the semi-final, highlighting their empathy and sportsmanship as exemplary African values.

“That simple act of compassion reflects our shared humanity and sisterly affection,” he noted.

With the Super Falcons unbeaten in the group stage, victorious in all knockout rounds, and having conceded just one goal so far, Tinubu said the nation is firmly behind them.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, we are praying for your resounding success tonight, as you strive to achieve the crowning accomplishment of lifting a record tenth continental title.”

To show national support, Tinubu has dispatched a presidential delegation to Morocco, including:

  • Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa
  • Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite
  • Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim
  • Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko

He also extended appreciation to the Super Falcons’ families, coaches, the Nigerian community in Morocco, supporters club, and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco.

“You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women are rooting for you.”

The president concluded with a heartfelt note:

“I look forward to receiving the team, the trophy, and the officials in Abuja.”
