A fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of five individuals and left seven others injured on Wednesday afternoon, near Car Park C in Mowe, Ogun State.
The crash, which occurred at approximately 1:39 p.m., involved a yellow Mazda bus (registration number LGB 465 XA) and an ash-colored Howo truck with no identifiable license plate.
Eyewitness Account and Cause
Eyewitnesses reported that the Howo truck, suspected to be speeding, suffered brake failure and lost control, crashing into the bus as it was attempting a turn.
According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, the collision involved 12 passengers—seven men and five women.
“Two male adults and three female adults were confirmed dead,” said Okpe. “Five male adults and two female adults sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
The injured were rushed to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue.
FRSC Urges Caution and Compliance
FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the urgent need for driver discipline and vehicle safety compliance.
“Drivers must adhere to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are mechanically sound,” he stated. “Fleet operators should install speed-limiting devices and prioritize regular vehicle maintenance.”
He also urged motorists to avoid reckless driving, particularly on busy highways like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has seen frequent fatal crashes in recent months.
