His Royal Highness Daniel Abomtse, the Ter Tyoshin and Chairman of the Gwer West Traditional Council, has raised an alarm over the continued onslaught of armed herdsmen in Benue State, revealing that the attacks have remained unchecked for over 15 years.
The monarch made the statement in Naka, Gwer West, during a visit by a delegation from the Benue State Government, led by Sir James Iorpuu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA). The team was there to deliver relief materials to victims of recent violent attacks and to express solidarity with the royal father after the destruction of his palace by angry youths protesting the incessant killings.
According to Tema Ager, BSEMA’s Information Officer, the visit aimed not only to provide humanitarian support but also to assess the damage caused by the ongoing violence.
Monarch Applauds Alia’s Swift Action
Chief Abomtse lauded Governor Hyacinth Alia for his immediate response following the attacks, describing it as a demonstration of “humanity, compassion, and leadership.”
“We have been under siege by terrorists masquerading as herdsmen for over 15 years,” the monarch said, urging the Federal Government to strengthen its support for the state’s security initiatives.
He expressed gratitude for the relief items provided and called for additional long-term interventions to support displaced communities.
BSEMA Condemns Destruction of Palace
In his remarks, Sir James Iorpuu condemned the recent destruction of the Ter Tyoshin’s palace, calling it “unprecedented and strange in Tivland.” He reaffirmed Governor Alia’s commitment to peace, security, and rehabilitation in Benue.
“This tragedy should be seen as a test of resilience,” he said, addressing both the monarch and the displaced residents.
Relief items delivered included food and non-food essentials, and Iorpuu emphasized that future distributions will involve local officials and community leaders to ensure proper coordination.
State Officials Pledge Full Support
The delegation also visited IDP camps in Agagbe, UBE Naka, and Calvin Foundation College of Education Clinic, where they assured residents of the government’s resolve to return them safely to their ancestral farmlands.

“The government will factor your needs into the 2026 budget,” said Rev. Ikyaan. “We must restore normal life to these communities.”
