Cristiano Ronaldo Nears 1,000 Career Goals — Set to Break Historic Football Record by 2026

Portugal and Al Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of setting one of football’s most remarkable records — becoming the first male player to score 1,000 career goals.

According to Sky Sports, Ronaldo’s brace against Hungary in the World Cup qualifiers pushed his overall tally to 948 goals across club and international competitions — 805 for club sides and 143 for Portugal.

The 40-year-old also made history as the highest goal scorer in World Cup qualifying history, surpassing Carlos Ruiz’s record of 39 goals, while Lionel Messi trails with 36.

Still Scoring at 40

Despite turning 40 in February, Ronaldo shows no sign of slowing down. Competing in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League with Al Nassr, he has netted 104 goals in 117 appearances over four seasons — a testament to his enduring excellence.

In 2025 alone, Ronaldo has already scored 32 goals for club and country, maintaining an extraordinary level of consistency. Since 2010, he has averaged over 50 goals per year, underlining his unmatched longevity in football.

A Decade of Relentless Productivity

Ronaldo’s most prolific year remains 2013, when he scored 69 goals and won the Ballon d’Or.
Incredibly, his annual tally has dropped below 39 only once in the last 15 years — a record unmatched by any footballer in the modern era.

History Beckons

With Portugal on course to qualify for next summer’s World Cup and two years remaining on his Al Nassr contract, projections suggest Ronaldo could reach the 1,000-goal milestone by October 2026 — a feat never before achieved in football history.
