Controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by an Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo Local Government Area.

The sentence follows his conviction on two counts—assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, with the option of a ₦30,000 fine.

Court Details

Portable, who was arrested in March 2023, had physically attacked a police officer while obstructing the delivery of an arrest warrant. The court found him guilty of the offense committed on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.

Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke told the court that Portable and others at large conspired to commit felony assault and also stole musical equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, Studio 2 interface cable, and an AKG P420 condenser mic.

Judgment Summary

Presiding Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo ruled Portable guilty on the first two counts:

  • Count 1 (Assault and Conspiracy): 1-month imprisonment or ₦10,000 fine
  • Count 2 (Unlawful Assault): 2-month imprisonment or ₦20,000 fine

Background

The case gained public attention due to Portable’s erratic social media behavior and clashes with law enforcement. Though previously released on bail, the charges remained until this recent conviction.
