In a major summer signing, Bayern Munich have completed the transfer of Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Liverpool, with the deal potentially reaching €75 million ($86.5 million) in total value.

The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract until 2029 with the Bundesliga giants, making him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history. His arrival offers a significant boost to Bayern’s attacking options, especially following injuries and recent departures.

“In Luis Díaz, we’ve signed one of the top left-wingers in the Premier League,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He brings a winning mentality and strong character from Liverpool.”

Díaz enjoyed a highly successful spell at Anfield, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups, and contributing significantly during the 2024/25 campaign with 17 goals and 8 assists in 50 appearances. He was Liverpool’s second-highest scorer last season, behind Mohamed Salah.

“I’m very happy to join FC Bayern,” Díaz said after the announcement. “This is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to contribute with my style of play and win every possible title.”

On social media, the Colombian international bid farewell to Liverpool fans, expressing pride in their shared achievements:

“I will treasure forever my time at Liverpool. I’m leaving proud of everything we achieved together.”

The winger was excluded from Liverpool’s recent 4-2 pre-season loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong, intensifying rumors about his departure before the deal was finalized.

Díaz fills a key gap in Bayern’s squad following Jamal Musiala’s long-term injury and the exits of Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané. He becomes Bayern’s third-most expensive signing, following Harry Kane (€95M) and Lucas Hernandez (€80M).

Having debuted for Colombia in 2018, Díaz has 18 international goals in 64 appearances. His club-level success and experience are expected to be pivotal under Vincent Kompany’s management.

He’s set to train with the Bayern squad on Wednesday and may feature in their upcoming friendly against Lyon on Saturday in Munich.
