Ortom Hails Tinubu on North Central Development Commission Approval

The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC). Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the bill’s signing during a Senate session on Tuesday.

Ortom described the development as a historic and significant step in addressing the challenges faced by the North Central region, particularly security threats and economic hardship. In a statement signed by his media aide, Terver Akase, and made available to journalists in Makurdi, Ortom emphasized that the region has endured over a decade of devastation, with countless lives lost and millions displaced due to relentless attacks by armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements.

He noted that the NCDC’s establishment demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to listening to the concerns of the people, adding that it symbolizes hope for communities ravaged by violence.

“The people of North Central have long awaited this moment, and it is heartening to see that our aspirations have been recognized at the highest level of government,” Ortom stated.

He also lauded Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, for sponsoring the bill, commending his dedication to the welfare of the region. According to Ortom, Moro has been a strong advocate for peace and development, and his efforts were instrumental in making the NCDC a reality.

Additionally, Ortom congratulated Senator Titus Zam, who represents Benue North West Senatorial District, on his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission. He expressed confidence in Zam’s ability to lead the commission effectively.

The former governor called on the people of the region to support the NCDC to ensure its success, emphasizing that collective effort is needed to drive meaningful development and rebuild communities affected by insecurity.
