Osimhen targets Galatasaray European scoring record in Champions League showdown

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen is on the brink of making history when Galatasaray host Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 26-year-old Nigerian striker is just one goal away from breaking the club’s long-standing European record for most consecutive matches scored in, a record he currently shares with former Turkish international Burak Yilmaz, who scored in six straight European games for the club back in 2012.

Osimhen, who netted 37 goals and 7 assists in 41 appearances last season, extended his contract with Galatasaray in August, sealing a permanent four-year deal after a stellar campaign that saw him dominate both Super Lig and European fixtures.

Osimhen’s Remarkable Scoring Run

The former Napoli forward has been in hot form in continental competitions. He scored against Tottenham Hotspur, AZ Alkmaar, Dynamo Kiev, and Ajax in last season’s Europa League, and added to his tally with a decisive strike against Liverpool in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win in their most recent Champions League outing.

Although he missed the opening UCL fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt due to an ankle injury, Osimhen returned to action just in time to continue his scoring streak against the Premier League champions.

A goal on Wednesday at RAMS Park will make Osimhen the sole record holder, surpassing Yilmaz, who is now the manager of Gaziantep FK.

Osimhen’s Recent Form

Osimhen featured briefly in Galatasaray’s last Super Lig match against Basaksehir, playing 12 minutes after returning from international duty where he scored a hat-trick against Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Nigeria.

Manager Okan Buruk will likely count on the forward’s sharpness to maintain their European momentum and strengthen Galatasaray’s position in Group D, where they currently sit second after a win and a defeat in their opening two fixtures.

Galatasaray’s Domestic Dominance

Domestically, Galatasaray have been unstoppable — winning 19 of their last 20 games across all Turkish competitions. They currently top the Super Lig table after a 2-1 victory over Basaksehir, courtesy of a Leroy Sane brace.

Their home form remains a fortress, but their European journey has been far less consistent, with the win against Liverpool marking just their second victory in 19 Champions League matches.

Bodo/Glimt’s Threat

Their visitors, Bodo/Glimt, are making their Champions League debut this season and have shown remarkable resilience. The Norwegian champions drew 2-2 with Slavia Prague and 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur, recovering from losing positions in both matches.

Coming off a 5-2 league win over Sarpsborg, they sit second in the Eliteserien, just one point behind the leaders with a game in hand — proving they are no pushovers ahead of their trip to Istanbul.

What’s at Stake

If Osimhen finds the net tonight, he will cement his name in Galatasaray’s history books, breaking Burak Yilmaz’s 13-year-old record and further enhancing his growing reputation as one of Europe’s deadliest forwards.
